Another Band Saw Question

Postby Leatherwood on Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:39 am

First off I would like to say Hello and that this site is great. I have been looking around and really like what I see. I was looking a couple of weeks ago and saw a picture of a hand held band saw that was mounted to the side of a work bench. I would like to see more pictures of that or one like that. I would like to use a porta band saw for the lack of space it takes up. Thanks for the help.

Hey buddy, that would have been my Milwaukee band saw you saw on my bench, I'll take some more pics for you and post them shortly. What I did was to weld a piece of angle iron onto the side of my metal table. Then I stand the saw upright and clamp alongside it to the posts to keep it there-it will move here and there at times but it still works well and is rocket science compared to how I used it as intended before. I was thinking about making a table for where the little one is that's a lot larger and screw that in place-that would be an improvement. To run the saw I clamp vice grips on the trigger-what would OSHA say?
Right now I'm working on retrofitting my wood saw to slow it down with jack shaft and pulleys to slow down the speed so when I have that further along I'll post pics and explanation of how I did that.

Band saw switch

Postby silverchip on Sat Mar 14, 2009 3:24 pm

Since the switch is a trigger switch,Why don't you rewire it to a foot switch?
I'm only as good as you think I am.

Geeze Dave, the answer to that one is simple, that woud make sense! It really is a superb idea and a heck of a lot safer that's for sure. One let up on the foot pedal and the saw would stop. Plus I could have my nice wide jaw vice-grips back too :-) Three cheers for your idea, it's a keepah!

Paul that is a good idea on the portable band saw, do you use it only to cut out buckle blanks and such or is it possible to cut out overlays as well if they aren't too small?
