Greg Pauline

I have been admiring your work here and on Sam Alfano"s forum. I was wondering if you could possubly give a tutorial on the way you sharpen your gravers for various cuts you use in your style of engraving.

Norm~ First of all, let me thank you for your compliment, I appreciate it very much. As time permits, I will attempt to put together a series of pictures along with a description as to how I sharpen and in some cases how I fabricate certain types of gravers. Thank you for asking, it is my pleasure.

Best regards,
Greg Pauline

I will be posting some pictures along with the
step by step text instructions very soon. Please
accept my apologies for taking so long and thanks
for your patience. It's been a long road I've been
walking the last year.

Best regards,
Greg Pauline

I would love to see your work Greg Pauline too. I recently attended the GRS training course in bright cut engraving taught by Diane Scalese and it's opened a whole new world for me in engraving, and I am very grateful for her passing along all she knows-it was a week week spent trust me.
The only thing briefly I can add for sharpening your flats-we used a 45 degree face with a 20 degree heel-not 15. That heel is radiused too on the powerhone-loosening the set screw and slowly letting it drop as you press down (on final ceramic polishing stone) to make the curve gradual and not sharp angled-if that makes sense.
600, then 1200 diamond stones then ceramic lap stome was the progression, and a mirror and I mean MIRROR finsih is crucial-stropping with leather coated with diamond spray is a good idea too. I'm no pro at it yet but even initial results are extreeeeemly rewarding.
We all look forward to your posts Greg Pauline -thanks in advance Smile
Paul
