Couple new buckles.

Postby jesse.beckham » Thu Jul 10, 2014 7:16 pm

My second and third buckles to make. Making these for my groomsmen (getting married July 26). Still have two more to make this weekend.
These are sterling inlaid with nickel silver overlays. And gun blued. I'm using birch wood cases super blue. I was hoping for a much darker finish, but the dark color I had after rinsing and drying was powdery and and came right off. Used steel wool to buff out a bit. I like the finish, it's kind if spotty though... Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time.

The aTm is copper, hard to tell from the glare.

One thing you might want to do is to take a 90 or 110 graver and very lightly(VERY LIGHTLY) go around the edge of all your inlays. You want to try to take half silver, half steel. Get right in the center of where the two meet. It will sharpen the edges of your inlays. Might want to try it on a scrap piece to figure out the process.

Jerry
PS I can't stress lightly enough...that light line will help accentuate the inlays.
