The place to talk about anything completely unrelated to bits and spurs. Football, weather, music, whatever.

I found this site this evening. I started making spurs and bits a few years ago after some help from Jayson Jones. I think I have been on the computer for a couple of hours now and it feels like only 5 min. Great Site and have enjoyed reading all the posts.

Some spur pictures

Postby Tyler W on Thu Sep 04, 2008 3:43 pm

Here are a few pictures of some spurs I have made this past year. I have only made 29 pairs so far and the spurs with KW were my # 9 pair made a after I was able to work with Jayson Jones a couple of years ago. He really helped me with all aspects of the spur making process. One of the things I enjoy most is each spur is completly different and I seem to learn something new on each pair.

Larry I looked at your website, you do some amazing work!

Mike

I have seen a bunch of your stuff before and have always liked the mix of "Texas Style" with I don't know what it is called but kind of gun style engraving. I really like the backgrounds behind the brands, initials, etc. I was wondering how you distress the silver like that?

Hello, thanks for the comments on my stuff. I appreciate that. I dont know what my style is called, probably a bastardization of some sort, but it seems to work for me. I will tell you there are some guys here who are really great craftsmen. I hope to aspire to the level of some of these guys. A real nice thing is the guys here are really good to help and try to answer any questions you might have. I am looking forward to seeing what your doing, and picking up ideas.
As far as the texture back ground behind brands and the like, I just stipple the back groung with a fine point tool in my gravermeister. You can do a nice back ground with a flat graver as well, just wriggle out the back ground. After thats done I use rustoleum flat black paint, put the paint on with a q tip, wipe off with you thumb, then let dry. You can then clean things up with a pink eraser and its ready to go. Hope that answers the question, holler if I can help in anyway.
