howdy folks
i didnt want to hijack the other jingle bob thread so here is my question . what type of wire or rod do you use to make the ring that goes through the rowel pin and the end of the jingle bob ?? do you weld them shut or just clench them together?
thanks
yourn truly

Hogshooter
I am no expert when it comes to jingle bobs, but I have made and installed some on California Drop Shank style spurs. I have used wire about the size of bale wire preferablly a hair bigger and just made a jump ring to attach the jingle bob. I have left them clinched and I have also soldered them. I prefer to solder them shut. I have also install them with the rowell pin peened tight and also only mushroomed and left the pin loose. My personal spurs I last used just had a Silver Disc Jingler riveted in beside the rowell. Just one man's opinion. _________________ Norm Harris, Jr.

I use bailing wire, like norm said, but I'll weld it together the same way I weld bridle chain links. Touch the ends of the circle together, with just a little pressure against it's self. Heat it with a torch until the ends melt, and they fuse together. It takes a little practice but it's pretty easy.

your probably right about the soft wire hogshooter, it probably wears too fast, but thats the way I've done it.

One of the things I do is take a small countersink and remove the sharp edge from the holes in the rowelpin and the jinglebobs. I think this helps make the wire that holds the jinglebobs last longer.

sorry about the double post above.
larry your idea on deburring the holes in the rowel pins and jingle bobs i'm sure would extend the life of the wire holding them on . i will try to remember that little trick when i build mine.
thanks again
