Greg,
These measurements are from a photoshop photo scaled to make the opening for the belt 1-1/2" which is what the blank was originally. If the scaling remains constant then these measurements will be really close. I suppose that some consideration should be given for the buckle having been domed. Because of that parallax? view I could not get an accurate measurement of the Masonic Symbol.
If more measurement is needed, let me know.
I can't wait to see what you have in mind.
In the mean time, I have seen a drawing tutorial on another forum that kicked in some meaning to me. I will practice more with that help also.
Thank you Greg for your time! Steak dinner for you and the Mrs. sometime!
D.C.

DC~ Thank you for being patient. Here it goes. In the
photo of your finished work I circled the areas that
needed to be completed with more substantial and
organized cutting. The areas that are drawn with
arrows, point to the areas where you need to bring
the scroll spine closer to your wriggled border. In the
following pictures you will be able to see how to achieve
completion of these areas.
Best regards,
Greg Pauline

Greg,
I wanted to send a quick thank you, your time and help is very much appreciated. I want to study these more and ask appropriate questions. I am also going home this weekend (where my tools are) and I will try to do this "ear" over again and see if I comprehend what you have taught me. I would like to repost my attempt and get your evaluation. Would that be alright with you? I feel that not only would I learn from that but there might be those that are having the same issue observing this thread.
I also want to thank you for not changing my entire design. It at least validates that I am getting better in some areas and will really help me to learn to fill those voids.
Thanks again,

Greg,
Thanks for a great tutorial. You have been very kind to go out of your way to help others learn and I for one have really benefited from it.
D.C., I look forward to seeing a picture of your next buckle.

Greg:
Thank you for taking time to post this great tutorial.
Boys:
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This tutorial is worth a couple of thousand dollars! Go figure the milage from where you live and gasoline consumption to California, between $700 to $1000 or more, a week off work, meals and motel costs and you can see what it would cost to go study with Greg for a week. With your printer, some practice material and this information when you get to where you can cut like the example in front of you, you'll be some kind of engraver. And all this was free. Thank you again Greg. If you don"t know it Greg is the proprietorof Hirum West Silversmiths.

Howdy Folks,
Yepper, Greg did all of us a favor putting this together. I am eternally grateful for that.
Greg, I am headed home this afternoon from Austin and will be there all weekend. Yippee! I am going to mount another buckle and do what you have taught me. I will post my results. I hope that you will review and make comments.

Hello hope your well. Thank you for taking the time to do this for all of us. I really appreciate the fact that you took D.C.s original idea, and showed where it could be improved. Lots of guys would not have done this, they would have simply done there thing, and completely changed the original design. You did a great job with this, and I printed a copy of it off and put on my bench as a referance. Thank you for taking the time to do this, you are appreciated, and a very gifted craftsman. _________________ May God Bless you, as He has me

Howdy Fellers,
Just got back to Austin. I didn't get to do anything in the shop but packed up some stuff to UPS to Austin so that I can do some practice. I will get the ear of the buckle done so that we can see what I learned. I will post when I get er done.
Now, for the reason/excuse for not getting anything done this weekend. I was home and had a wife, 2 daughters, 2 son in laws, and 3 grandsons that needed attention. I either had the grandsons in my lap or hanging off my hip pockets all weekend. What a joy!
Anyway, more later.
