Hey Guys what kind of hole saws do you use? I cant seem to find any that last worth a darn and the ones i have been buying are pretty pricey. I have the drill press as slow as it will go and use cutting oil... So if any body knows any tips to make them last longer, or knows of a brand that will last i sure would appercaite it.

i use a cheap bimetal hole saw set that you can buy at ACE hardware, i have also used a set called blue-mol. they seem to work well for me. you have to run slow, apply gradual pressure, and keep them wet with oil. I also flip my steel over as i approach halfway on thicker steels. this helps cut down on friction on the outside of the saw as it is not spinning in a hole rubbing the sides. i can normally cut 10 or so holes with each one before they dull up and become a burden to use.

Im gettin about the same life from mine between 6 and 10 holes. I just figured these spendy saws would last longer.

Wait till you use them on stainless. If you get 3 or 4 holes your doing good.

Hi Steve

Checked my tool box and I found two different brands, LENOX and STARRETT. I have drilled quite a few holes with these and they seem to be wearing just fine. Have not used them on stainless, I don't like stainless.

Ill look for them and give em a try, Thanks Norm. I wouldent mind stainless if my shop was i little better equipped,but with the tools i have now its not much fun to work with.

I love stainless. I like how it welds. and polishes up. It is hard to drill and cut.
