Rope edges

Postby jim dunlap on Wed Aug 29, 2007 9:33 pm

I have an order for a 3 piece buckle set, so I have been experimenting with different edges, and an wanting some advice on the different edges that can be put on a buckle. I made on the other day with a part bead, part wire edge, and was not real happy with it. I sure would like some advice.
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim, I have made my own copper rope border real easy. I use very thin copper wire that comes in a small roll from the hardware store; I think they wrap flower stems with it or something. I twist two ends together and then clamp vice grips at either ends and twist in opposite directions. When it’s all twisted I run it through my pasta roller to flatter it out, then solder the back and cut longer than what you need and solder that onto your buckle. It’s a real bear to form it just so and clamp in place when you solder but it does work.

rope edges

Postby silverchip on Tue Mar 17, 2009 2:09 pm

I have made rope edges from square wire.I took 1 long strand of silver or gold wire and twisted it untill it looked like a sheet metal screw thread then folded it in half and twisted again in the same direction with a vs drill.(make a hook to put in the drill .) I am sure that you can do the same with round copper wire.
I'm only as good as you think I am.

I will be glad to help you with the rope edges. Give me a holler and I can walk you through it. If you live close by drop in and I will show you. These ropes eat lots of folks up, but it is real easy with a little help.
May God Bless you, as He has me
